Suez Canal Sees Return of Mega Container Ships — A Strategic Boost for Global Trade

The Suez Canal has recently welcomed the transit of two massive CMA CGM container vessels JULES VERNE and HELIUM reinforcing its resurgent role in major shipping lanes.

  • JULES VERNE, one of the largest container ships in the world (396 m × 53.6 m, ~176,000 tons), passed safely in a southbound convoy after navigating Bab al-Mandeb from Singapore to Lebanon.
  • HELIUM, on its first-ever southbound voyage via Suez, covered its route from Singapore to Alexandria with a size of 335 m and a capacity of around 130,000 tons.

Under the leadership of Admiral Osama Rabie, the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) ensured their safe passage by assigning senior pilots, providing tug support, and monitoring convoy movements in real time.

For Sea Wise Marine Services, this development is more than a headline, it confirms a renewed trust among major carriers in the Suez route. It also underscores the canal’s growing capacity and operational strength, making it a more attractive option for forwarders, shipowners, and logistics partners looking to optimize cost and transit time in their East–West trade routes.
